Be Safe!   Dial 811 Before You Dig

One call to 811 will route you to the state's One Call Center which will start the process of getting under ground utility lines marked on your property.  It will take two full business days before some one comes out to mark all underground utilities on your property.   Once marked, you can safely dig in your yard. This is a free service.

Free Soil Testing & Analysis

The UALR Cooperative  Extension provides free soil testing.  The final soil analysis will tell you what type of soil you have and how to amend it to make it the correct ph level for the types of plants you want to grow in your yard or garden.   Do the following to gather  an accurate sampling of your soil:
   
Take soil from 6 to 8 different locations in the area you will plant.  Go 4-5 inches deep to get a large scoop of soil.   Mix the soil scoops together in a large bucket.  Once mixed,  take two cups worth of the mixed soil and put into a small container then let dry.  Now you are ready to take your soil sample to be tested to this location:

Disposing of Hazardous Waste 

Fluorescent lights, batteries, oil, gasoline, fertilizer, pesticides, and electronics are hazardous waste materials that should never be placed in your normal trash.  To dispose of these items, take to the following pickup area  which  collects hazardous waste the first Saturday of each month from 7:00 am to Noon:

Police Substation at 10,001 Kanis Rd - Back Parking Lot         
(Corner of Kanis and Junior Deputy Drive near Baptist Medical Center) 

Note:  They will not take paint.  To dispose of paint, add sawdust or cat litter to it and let dry. Then dispose of it in your regular trash.
